Car insurance

Compulsory insurance is only the beginning. We show you what is really covered in an accident, and which additional covers are worth it for your car.

What car insurance can cover

From compulsory third-party liability to comprehensive cover for a new car.

Third-party liability

The compulsory cover, for damage and injuries you cause to others.

Roadside assistance

Towing, roadside repairs and often a replacement vehicle.

Theft, fire and glass breakage

The usual additional covers for your own vehicle.

Own damage

Damage to your own car, even if you are at fault.

Your policy, in plain English

Four concepts, in plain words

Own damage with a deductible

Covers your own car. The deductible is the amount you pay yourself for each claim.

Example: Damage of €2,500 with a €500 deductible: you pay €500 and the insurer pays €2,000.

No-claims bonus

With no at-fault claims, the premium goes down. After a claim, it may go up at renewal.

Example: A driver with years of no at-fault claims usually pays a noticeably lower premium than a newly qualified driver, for exactly the same car.

New driver

Drivers who have held a licence for only a few years, or who are young, often have a special deductible or a higher premium.

Example: If your child with a new licence also drives the car, they must be declared. Otherwise, there may be a problem in a claim.

Natural perils

Hail, flood and falling trees are not covered by compulsory insurance.

Example: After a hailstorm, without natural perils cover, the repair is on you.

Wherever you’re starting from

Your first car, or first time with us?

We need the basics:

  1. Which car, what is it worth and where is it parked?
  2. Who drives it, and how many years have they held a licence?
  3. Whether there is a loan or lease with insurance requirements.

We bring you quotes from different insurers, with the same covers side by side, so you can compare properly.

Renewing soon?

Send us your policy before it expires. We compare the premium and covers with the market and tell you whether it’s worth switching.

We also check whether the insured value matches the car’s current value and whether everyone who drives it is correctly declared. That’s where most unpleasant surprises in a claim are hidden.

Car insurance FAQ

What do I do immediately after a road accident?

Make sure everyone is safe, call roadside assistance or your insurer’s representative, fill in the Accident Report together with the other driver and let us know the same day.

What is friendly settlement?

A way to be paid quickly by your own insurer when you are not at fault, without waiting for the other driver’s insurer. We explain whether it applies in your case.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes, most insurers accept six-monthly or even monthly payment, often with a small surcharge.

Before you renew, ask us. You may get better cover for the same money.
