Liability
A claim from a third party can cost more than the business itself is worth. For contractors, professionals and every business that deals with the public.
Which liability cover do you need?
There is no single liability cover. Depending on your work, we combine the ones that apply to you.
Contractors and construction
For contracting and construction companies: damage to third parties and to the works themselves during construction, with limits that match the requirements of each contract.
Professional
For engineers, accountants, doctors, lawyers and every professional who is accountable for errors or omissions in their work and advice.
General and employer’s
For injury or damage to visitors and clients at your premises, and for employee claims after a work accident.
Product
For those who manufacture, import or sell products that may cause harm to third parties.
Your policy, in plain English
Four concepts you should know
Per-event and annual limit
The maximum amount for each claim and the total for the whole year.
Example: A limit of €500,000 per event and €1,000,000 per year: a claim of €700,000 is covered up to €500,000.
Claims made
Professional liability usually covers claims made while the policy is in force, even if the error happened earlier.
Example: If you cancel the policy and a claim arrives the following year for past work, it may not be covered.
Retroactive cover
The date from which work carried out before the policy started is covered.
Example: You change insurer: we make sure the retroactive date carries over, so your past work isn’t left uncovered.
Contract requirements
Contracts, tenders and leases often set specific limits, covers and named insureds.
Example: The project owner asks to be included as co-insured with a €1,000,000 limit. We check the contract and the policy line by line before you submit it.
Wherever you’re starting from
Liability cover for the first time?
Tell us exactly what you do, for whom and where. Three questions are enough to get started:
- What is your activity and your annual turnover?
- Do you employ staff or subcontractors?
- Is there a contract, tender or licence that requires specific insurance?
We propose limits and covers that match your real risk, not the bare minimum.
Already have a policy?
We review it against the work you do today, because businesses change and policies often lag behind.
We look at limits, exclusions, retroactive cover and whether it meets what your contracts require.
Liability FAQ
Does liability insurance also cover damage to my own property?
No. It covers damage you cause to others. For your own property you need property insurance or, on construction projects, cover for the works themselves.
The project owner is asking for an insurance certificate. How quickly can I get it?
As soon as the policy is issued, we ask the insurer for a certificate with the details the project owner needs. If time is tight, tell us the submission date from the start.
Are fines covered?
Usually not. Liability insurance covers compensation to third parties and defence costs, not administrative fines or criminal penalties.
