Property and fire

From a shop to an industrial plant. We insure buildings, premises and stock with the right sums insured, so the claim payment is enough when you need it.

What a fire policy can cover

The core cover is fire. Around it, we build whatever your own premises need.

Fire and lightning

The basis of every policy, for the building and its contents.

Earthquake and natural perils

Earthquake, flood, storm, snow. For many businesses, now mandatory.

Theft and breakage

Burglary, vandalism, glass breakage, machinery breakdown.

Business interruption

The profits and the costs that keep running while the business stays closed after a loss.

Your policy, in plain English

Four concepts that decide the claim payment

Rebuilding value

For a building, the sum insured must cover the cost of rebuilding it, not its price on the property market.

Example: An 800 m² building may sell for €500,000 but need €900,000 to rebuild. The right sum insured is the second one.

Underinsurance

If you insure for less than the actual value, the claim payment is reduced proportionally, even for a partial loss.

Example: Stock worth €300,000 insured for €150,000, loss of €60,000: the payment may be €30,000.

Fluctuating stock

Stock doesn’t have the same value all year round. There are ways for the cover to follow the ups and downs.

Example: A shop that stocks up before Christmas may be underinsured in exactly the month its stock is worth the most.

Earthquake deductible

For earthquake, the deductible is usually a percentage of the value, not a fixed amount.

Example: With a 2% deductible on a €1,000,000 sum insured, you bear the first €20,000 of an earthquake loss yourself.

A large or complex risk?

For industrial plants, warehouses, hotels and commercial property, we request quotes from more insurers and compare terms, not just prices.

Wherever you’re starting from

Insuring your premises for the first time?

We start with three pieces of information:

  1. What kind of premises, how many square metres and when was it built?
  2. What are the equipment and stock worth, on average and at peak?
  3. Is there a loan or lease with insurance requirements?

We help you calculate the sums insured correctly, the most critical point of any fire policy.

Already have a fire policy?

We first check whether the sums insured reflect today’s value, because construction costs and stock prices have risen sharply in recent years.

Then we look at covers, deductibles and exclusions, and tell you in writing what would change in a claim payment.

Property FAQ

Isn’t the bank’s policy enough?

It usually covers what the bank needs to protect the loan. Stock, equipment and business interruption may be left out.

What do I do immediately after a loss?

Make the site safe, limit the damage as far as possible, take photos and let us know straight away. Don’t throw anything away before the loss adjuster has seen it.

Can I insure rented premises?

Yes. You insure the contents, the improvements you have made and your liability towards the owner.

The right sums insured today mean full payment tomorrow.
