What boat insurance can cover
Every boat and every use has different needs. A weekend speedboat isn’t insured the same way as a sailing yacht that is chartered out.
Liability
For damage and injuries that may be caused to third parties, swimmers or other boats.
Damage to the boat
Collision, grounding, fire, theft and weather damage.
Engine and equipment
Engine and electronic equipment breakdowns, under the terms of each plan.
Commercial use
Charters and commercial vessels, with covers for passengers and crew.
Your policy, in plain English
Four concepts for boat owners
Agreed value
The value of the boat agreed at the start, so you know what you’ll receive in a total loss.
Example: A boat you bought for €80,000 may be worth less or more today. We agree its value based on today’s market, not on the price you paid for it.
Navigation area
The waters in which the insurance applies. Outside them, the cover may not apply.
Example: If you’re planning a trip to Turkey or Italy, we check in advance whether your policy covers it.
Laying-up period
The period when the boat is ashore or moored and not in use. In some plans it reduces the premium.
Example: By declaring that the boat is taken ashore from November to March, you may pay less, as long as you keep to it.
Chartering
Renting the boat out to others. It requires a specific declaration and cover, otherwise a loss may not be paid.
Example: If you charter the boat out even for a few weeks in the summer, the insurer must know.
Wherever you’re starting from
Your first boat?
We need the basics:
- What type of boat is it, what length and what engine?
- Where do you keep it and in which waters do you sail?
- Will you use it only yourself, or charter it out?
We bring you proposals with the covers side by side, so you can compare properly.
Already have boat insurance?
We check whether the value, navigation area and use you declared match what you do today.
If you plan to charter or sail further, we adjust it before you set off.
