What a health plan can cover
Every plan combines different elements. We help you keep the ones you need and not pay for the ones you don’t.
Hospital stays and surgery
Hospital, surgery and doctors’ costs when you need to be admitted to hospital.
Doctors and tests
Doctor visits, diagnostic tests and physiotherapy, without a hospital stay.
Prevention
An annual check-up, so anything that needs attention is caught early.
Serious illness and treatment abroad
Treatment at specialised centres, in Greece or abroad, when the case requires it.
Your policy, in plain English
Five terms that make all the difference
Deductible
The amount you pay yourself for a hospital stay before the insurer starts paying. The higher the deductible, the lower the premium.
Example: With a €1,500 deductible and a €6,000 hospital bill, you pay €1,500 and the insurer pays €4,500.
Room class
The type of hospital room. In first class you have a single room, in second class a double room. The class affects the hospital bill too, not just your comfort.
Example: If your plan covers second class and you choose a single room, you may have to pay part of the bill yourself.
Annual limit
The maximum amount the insurer pays within one year. Anything above it, you pay yourself.
Example: With a limit of €18,500 (a common limit in group plans) and a hospital bill of €25,000, €6,500 is left for you to pay. That’s why we first check whether the limit is enough.
Waiting period
The period after the policy starts during which some covers don’t apply yet, e.g. for certain operations or for childbirth.
Example: If you switch plans, we make sure the switch is made with waiting periods waived, so they don’t start again from scratch.
EOPYY contribution
If you are treated at a hospital contracted with EOPYY (the national health insurer), EOPYY pays part of the bill. In many plans this reduces or covers your deductible.
Example: We always check how the deductible works together with EOPYY in your plan, because it differs from insurer to insurer, and how it combines with your group plan, if you have one.
What about the deductible? We can cover it.
Through special partnerships we have set up, we can cover part or even all of your policy’s deductible. Ask us how this can apply to your plan.
Wherever you’re starting from
Health insurance for the first time?
We start from zero, together. You don’t need to know anything in advance, just answer three simple questions:
- Who do you want to insure: just yourself, or your family too?
- What worries you most: a hospital stay, or also the cost of doctors and tests?
- How much could you pay yourself for a hospital stay without it being a strain?
Based on your answers, we propose two or three plans, explained with examples. It’s best not to leave it for later: the earlier you get insured, the lower the premium usually is and the fewer health issues may be excluded.
Already have a group or personal plan?
If you have a group plan through work, a personal plan with a higher deductible may suit you, starting where the group plan ends. You pay a lower premium and you’re not left uncovered if you change jobs.
If you already have a personal plan, we check whether it covers you the way you think and whether there’s something better for the same money. Bring us your policies and we’ll show you how they work together.
Health insurance FAQ
Can I get insured if I already have a health condition?
Usually yes, but conditions that existed before the insurance may be excluded or covered under special terms. That’s why the health questionnaire must be filled in accurately: an omission can cost you the claim payment.
Why does the premium go up every year?
Because your age and the cost of medical care go up. At every renewal we check whether your plan still suits you or whether a change, e.g. to the deductible, would be worthwhile.
Can I insure the whole family together?
Yes. Family plans often have one shared annual deductible for all members, which lowers the total cost if two members need hospital care in the same year.
